Belgium vs Germany vs Turkey: Which is Best for Medical Treatment in 2025?
An honest comparison of the three most popular medical destinations for African and Middle Eastern patients — quality, cost, language, logistics.
The honest comparison
We are a Belgian agency, so a degree of bias is inevitable. We try here to be as fair as possible — Germany and Turkey are both excellent in different ways, and the right choice depends on your case.
Quality of care
Belgium — University hospitals consistently in the top of European rankings. Hospital infection rate <0.5%. Particularly strong in cardiology, oncology, fertility, transplantation.
Germany — Largest medical infrastructure in Europe by far. Charité Berlin, Heidelberg, Hamburg-Eppendorf are world-class. Particularly strong in oncology, neurology, complex surgery.
Turkey — Wide range of quality. Top private hospital chains (Acıbadem, Memorial, Anadolu) are JCI-accredited and offer excellent care. State hospitals vary widely. Particularly strong in cosmetic surgery, hair transplant, bariatric surgery, IVF.
For complex cases, Belgium and Germany are roughly equivalent. Turkey is excellent for high-volume elective procedures but more variable at the cutting edge.
Cost
Indicative pricing for a coronary bypass surgery (CABG):
- Turkey: €18,000–32,000
- Belgium: €25,000–45,000
- Germany: €40,000–70,000
Turkey is consistently the cheapest. Belgium typically sits 20–40% below Germany for equivalent complexity.
Waiting times
- Belgium: 2–6 weeks for elective specialist surgery, days for oncology urgency.
- Germany: 4–10 weeks for international elective patients, longer in summer.
- Turkey: 1–3 weeks, fastest of the three.
Language
- Belgium: English, French, Arabic and Dutch all spoken in major hospitals.
- Germany: English widely spoken in international patient departments. Arabic and French via interpreters.
- Turkey: English in private hospital chains. Arabic strong in many private chains. French rarer.
For francophone West African patients, Belgium has a clear advantage. For arabophone patients, all three have good options.
Logistics
- Belgium: 6h flight from Casablanca, 7h from Dubai. Schengen visa required for most.
- Germany: similar flights. Schengen visa.
- Turkey: 2h closer for most African capitals. Visa-free for Morocco/Tunisia, e-visa for most other African countries.
Cultural fit
For arabophone Gulf patients, all three offer halal logistics in major cities. Turkey has a natural cultural advantage. Belgium has a strong Moroccan-Belgian community in Brussels and a discreet, low-profile culture that many HNW families appreciate.
For francophone West African patients, Belgium is overwhelmingly the most natural fit due to language and historic ties.
Verdict
- For complex oncology, cardiology or neurology — Belgium or Germany. Belgium typically faster and cheaper than Germany.
- For cosmetic, bariatric or hair transplant — Turkey is excellent value, Belgium is excellent for discretion and complication management.
- For fertility/IVF — Belgium is a global reference; Turkey is also strong.
- For transplantation — Belgium for living-donor kidney; Germany for some specific programs.
The right destination depends on your case, your language, your budget, and your tolerance for risk. We are happy to give you our honest opinion — including when Belgium is not the right choice for you.
